Purpose of the I RD Unit
  • To develop a common Information System for the
    hospitals in NCLPN to ensure that accurate,
    up-to-date data is available for audit of
    practice, benchmarking, network accreditation and
    research.
  • To develop a virtual perinatal unit accessible on
    the NHS Net for bed management, occupancy, flow,
    transfer and refusal of patients and staff
    situation within the network.
  • To provide the framework and support for all
    NCLPN Subgroup activities such as Data
    Collection and Output, Research and Development
    Projects, Users Projects and Clinical
    Governance.
  • To interact at regional and national level with
    similar Network groups to provide better care of
    the newborn

  • Full time data analyst appointed June 2006
  • To assist with development and handling of the
    Perinatal Network Database(SEND Project) and
    Follow-up Database. To maintain the NCLPN web
    page, which will monitor patient flow. The work
    will include data validation and analysis,
    participating in producing reports and working as
    part of a team in setting up network wide data
    collection.
  • To train hospital staff / clerks on the NNU in
    data entry for the Database and be a regular
    point of contact for training and
    troubleshooting. To provide administrative
    support for the Information and RD Unit

    patient flow appointed (as job share) June 2006
  • To carry out an audit of patient flow within the
    network hospitals of all infants, in particular
    infants lt 27 weeks.
  • To coordinate the follow-up of all infants lt1000g
    as part of the neonatal follow-up programme.
  • To develop and maintain the database of the
    infants in the follow-up programme. This involves
    data entry but not analysis (Full time).
