How educators want to access data

• Educators want an array of types of data
• Contextualization is important
• Legend showing the variables and range (and their
  importance)
• The story and the so-what (Interpretations
  and relevance)
• Concerns
• Comfort Zone
• Grade level and interest in manipulating data are
  not necessarily correlative

Accessing data analysis tools

• Group data products into themes makes data easier
  to find
• Provide online tools for viewing manipulating
  data with option to download
• Provide downloading of data products in usable
  sizes
• Encourage collaboration between data providers,
  education product developers, scientists, and
  educators
• Online visualizations/animations ? online
  manipulation of variables ? downloaded data in
  easily usable formats (.xls, .cvs, .txt)

• Scientific visualizations and Remotely-sensed
  imagery
• Simple graphs (pdf, jpg) or small data files
  (xls, txt)
• Webpages as a front-end to databases on various
  earth variables
• Wrapped up or accessible through lesson plans,
  modules, curriculums

Making data more accessible in DLESE

• Create a webpage under the library development
  area
• Provide access to (list of) datasets related
  visualization and manipulation tools
• For data providers and educational resource
  developers
• Datasets could be in various states of readiness
• Create a DLESE metadata record that would link to
  the development area and evolve as the dataset
  list evolves
• Educate users about methods of discovering data
  (EET)
