  • Re-establishing the AISAC

Whereas
  • Arizonas Land, Water, and other resources face
    severe challenges from harmful, unwanted invasive
    plant and animal species
  • These impacts include ecological damage to
    Arizonas natural environments, economy, and
    human health

Whereas
  • Prevention, Early Detection, Rapid Response, and
    Eradication are most effective and least costly
    strategies
  • Implementation of these strategies requires
    leadership by Arizona and coordination with
    partners and stakeholders.

Whereas
  • Pursuant to Executive Order 2005-09, AISAC
    identified invasive species to be a threat
  • That Councils report to the Governor urged state
    leadership
  • Therefore ordered the following

1. Adoption of Definition
  • Adoption of the consensus definition as advisory,
    non-regulatory definition of Invasive Species
  • A species that is non-native to the ecosystem
    under consideration, and whose introduction
    causes or is likely to cause economic or
    environmental harm or harm to human health.

2. AISAC RE-ESTABLISHED
  • As a new, permanent, advisory body.
  • Under joint leadership of the Arizona Game and
    Fish Department and the Arizona Department of
    Agriculture.
  • Consist initially of 21 members.
  • Advise the state regarding Invasive Species
    Planning and Policy Implementation.

3. AISAC Members
  • Appointed by the Governor.
  • Serve without compensation.
  • Serve at the pleasure of the Governor.
  • Governor may appoint additional members.

4. AISAC Alternates / Designees
  • AISAC members may, with the Governors approval,
    identify designees to serve when the member must
    be absent.
  • Designees must have full authority to vote and
    act on behalf of the member.

5. State Agency Council Members
  • Eight State Agencies Identified.
  • A University in Arizona.
  • The Office of the Governor.

  • Native American Community
  • Agricultural Interests
  • Conservation Community
  • Forest Health Management Interests
  • Ranching Industry
  • Nursery and Landscape Industry
  • Pet Industry
