• Creation Of An Actual Organization

Why Create An Organization?

• To obtain funds like grants and donations so that
  we can afford to buy neat things to further our
  SKYWARN-related public service goals.
• People are more willing to donate to a real
  organization rather than a name-only
  organization such as we are now.
• Protection of organizational individuality.

How Do We Do This?

• Lay down long-term rules of operation and goals.
• Create a Constitution (or By-Laws).
• Decide when/where to meet, and how often.
• Decide dues rate.
• Elect at least the basic officers, at first.
• Etcetera.

Possible INITIAL Goals

• Regular public spotter training classes (of
  course!)
• Acquisition of the WX4GNV vanity callsign (before
  someone else does).
• Acquisition of local SKYWARN repeater so that
  both ARES and SKYWARN groups are free to conduct
  unimpeded operations on their own repeaters.
• Weather station networks and/or EMWIN - in
  schools, fire/police stations?
• APRS weather data stations in schools,
  fire/police stations.
• Cooperation agreements with other weather-related
  agencies, groups, and organizations.
• (Think of something! Theres a THOUSAND ideas!
  Form a COMMITTEE, and brainstorm some ideas.)

Things To Consider

• Individuality Separation from other groups and
  organizations, and freedom to operate on our own.
  A separate entity.
• Make agreements and/or MoUs with other
  groups/agencies, rather than becoming a
  sub-part of them.
• SKYWARN is not ham-only. Should be open to both
  hams and non-hams alike.
