Introduction and Background

• BIMP-EAGA was launched on 24 March, 1994 at Davao
  City, Philippines
• It was vision to be a sub-regional building block
  in ASEAN
• Bridging the development gap and creating peace,
  prosperity and security to the region

• 1ST BIMP-EAGA LEADERS MEETING, October 2003
• Pursue a more pragmatic approach in forging
  cooperation by initiating BIMP-EAGA flagship
  projects
• Task Transport Ministers to meet and take lead in
  promoting the development of land, air and sea
  linkages
• Welcome the support by the Plus 3 countries
  (China, Japan, Korea) in the development of
  BIMP-EAGA
