Youth of today are Leaders of tomorrow. The
wonderful World today is full of colours and
attractions to the pure and untainted minds of
our youth. Our youth can be led into either the
proper pathway or leeways , depending on the
environment that surrounds them. Our Lions Clubs
International had adopted many Youth Programmes
to handle the issues, to keep them occupied, to
give them opportunities to experience and train
them into the Leaders Of Tomorrow and at the same
time creating a more peaceful and harmonious
world.

Leo Program History  In 1957, Coach Jim Graver
started the Leo ball rolling. Chances are, that
ball was a baseball. Graver was the coach of the
Abington High School, Pennsylvania, USA, baseball
team. Graver was also an active member of the
Glenside, Pennsylvania, Lions Club. With fellow
Lion, William Ernst, Graver talked about starting
a service club for high school boys. So they
asked their fellow Lions for support. Without
hesitation, the Glenside Lions agreed that a
Lions youth group was a good idea. Graver and
Ernst set to work. On December 5, 1957, the
Glenside Lions presented a charter to the
Abington High School Leo Club whose members were
mostly made up of the high school's baseball
team. As the world's first Leo club, the group
created the Leo acronym - Leadership, Equality,
Opportunity (Equality was later changed to
Experience.) And, the group chose maroon and gold
- their school colors - to serve as the Leo club
colors.

The objectives

Youth Camp Program

• The first international camp - by the Lions of
  Sweden in 1974, minimum one-week program
• the participation of young people from different
  countries.
• Not conducted for tourism/education/employment
  but for cultural learning opportunity.

Youth Camp Program

• Activities include visits to places of historic,
  industrial, educational, scientific, religious or
  natural interest
• structured group activities such as folk dancing
  or flag presentations non-political,
  non-nationalistic discussions concerning world
  issues
• physical activities such as team sports, rafting,
• or singing and quiet, relaxing activities
  such as writing entries in a camp journal.

Who is suitable?

• Have a basic knowledge of the language of the
  host country
• Be suitable to represent their community, Lions
  club, and country
• Be willing to accept the customs of another
  culture.

YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM

• Exchanges can occur in any of the 205 countries
  in which Lions clubs exist.
• Last between 4-6 weeks.
• Often, exchangees also participate in the Lions
  International Youth Camp Program.

Lions Quest
Lions Quest is a school based, comprehensive,
positive youth development and prevention program
that unites the home, school and community. The
curricula aim to cultivate capable and healthy
young people of strong character through
social-emotional skills, character education,
positive behaviour and service-learning education.
