2See Jesus The Kingdom of God
3I. The Kingdom
- The Kingdom is like
- sowing seed
- a mustard seed
- a man who finds a great pearl
4II. Gods Kingdom Compared to The Kingdom of This
World
Herod Vs. Jesus Sheep among wolves, a tiny
seed in a garden, yeast in bread dough, salt in
meat. Jesus own metaphors of the Kingdom
describe a kind of secret force that works from
within. Gentle Noise H. Comer
5III. A Different Kind of Kingdom
My kingdom is not of this world. If it were my
servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the
Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.
(Jn. 1836) The kingdom of God does not come
with your careful observation, nor will people
say here it is or there it is because the
kingdom of God is with in you. (Lk 1721)
6 As followers of Jesus we possess a dual
citizenship. We live in an external kingdom of
family, cities, nations while at the same time
belonging to the kingdom of God. In His command
render to Caesar what is Caesars, and to God
what is Gods Jesus underscored the fundamental
tension that can result. For early Christians,
loyalty to Gods kingdom sometimes meant a fatal
clash with Caesars visible kingdom.
7Our real challenge, the focus of our energy,
should not be to Christianize the US (always a
losing battle) but rather to strive to be Gods
Kingdom in an increasingly hostile world.
Ironically, if the U.S. is slipping down a
slippery moral slope, that may better allow the
church as it did in Rome to set up a new
sign which is full of promise As American
slides, I will work and pray for the kingdom of
God to advance. If the gates of hell cannot
prevail against the church, the contemporary
political scene hardly offers much threat.
8So in the meantime we work toward a
better/brighter future. And as Christs
followers, we are left with the task of
displaying the signs of the Kingdom of God, and
the world is watching judging the merits of the
Kingdom by usThe reign of God is breaking into
the world, and we can be its heralds.
9Seek first the kingdom of God and His
righteousness and all these things shall be added
unto you. (Mt. 633) Heb. 1218-28
10Except you be converted, and become as little
children, you shall not enter the Kingdom of
heaven.
(Mt. 183) Unless a man be born again, he
cannot see the Kingdom of God.
(John 33) No one after putting their
hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for
the kingdom. (Lk. 962)
