Title: Andy Goldsworthy
1Andy Goldsworthy
2- Suggested Lesson Sequence
- Discuss how the word art is the center of the
word earth. Ask your students what
metaphorical implications this might have. Have
them to find other word-within-words for a
journal entry. For example Theres a little
love in every four-leaf clover. - Next, view the slides of Andy Goldsworthys work.
Inform them that Goldsworthy always worked with
the materials on hand and primarily used his
hands as his tools. He was noninvasive to nature
and his works were impermanent. All that lasts
of most of them is a photo. - Explain art happenings to your students. Use the
definition provided or search out your own. - Have students answer the questions at the end of
this presentation and then, commence to
orchestrate their own environmental happening.
You may choose to have them gather small bags of
natural materials and work in the studio or work
outside on location. - Record student happenings with digital camera.
Post and share.

13How can you?
14A happening in art is when an artist by
him/herself or with others interacts with the
elements present and what happens, happens. Is it
art?
15In your journal, answer these 1) What natural
elements would you like to work with? 2) Where
would you like to work? 3) Would you like to
perform alone or interact with others?
16Art - Let it happen.
17These patterns are the result of nature
throws done by an ASU Art Ed. class.
