Course Offerings
  • What courses will you offer ? (SCH.310)
  • Course Handbook (offer link/combine options or
    all single?)
  • Process for collecting course requests
  • Polling current teachers especially dept. heads
    on what they will teach, ideas for upcoming year
  • Changes to terms? Significant block changes?

Scan Sheets
  • Style of scan sheet, per grade or combined?
  • Bubble all courses for all grades or mass assign
    compulsories and only offer options on some grade
    level sheets?
  • How to hand out the forms to existing students
  • How to manage forms for feeder schools? What
    order to print in, how will consultants see the
    students?
  • Changes cannot be made to the form once it has
    been printed/distributed.

  • STU.996 vs. SCH.991 and check 0 course requests
  • SCH.710 to confirm you remove requests for those
    no longer coming SCH.711 (yours going
    elsewhere!)

Right Courses and Pre-Reqs in Place
  • SCH.650 (SCH.651 and SCH.652). Pay special attn
    to Pre-req numbers as it may affect how you offer
    semester courses!
  • SCH.550 to report then SCH.606 - to auto-generate
    courses (based on SCH.310 entries)

Qualifying Course requests
  • Confirm SCH.510 - ask questions as to reasonable
    numbers, grade level problems check standards
    against STU.996
  • Look for missing requests SCH.527 (eg Gr11 no EN
    11)
  • Look for too many/too few requests SCH.592

  • SCH.510 listing ACCURATE and TRUE
  • Conflict Matrix SCH.515
  • Annual document highlighting expected of
    withdrawals and adds by grade level and area
  • GRD.558 for existing students to establish
    expected failures .. Contact feeder for same for
    incomings!!!
  • GRD.567 for feeder students to confirm passing
    interim grades or GRD.568 after July 1 to check
    transcripts
  • Consider current yr withdrawals STU.983 coming
    back??
  • How many blocks are you able to offer????

Master Schedule building Thoughts
  • Pre-req courses make sure are offered in Sem1
  • Look for grade level balance per period
  • Even if you are building timetable manually,
    consider entry through proposed.
  • Scheduling with Excel start with Requests
  • SCHEDDETMB or BC or GUI
  • Selection by grade, group, sex, tag
  • Drill down to details

  • Potential SCH.617, TRA/MIN.925, SGH.925, TXT.925
    (Textbooks) to minimize amount of re-keying from
    previous year. Also new SCH.533 Master schedule

  • Course definitions - grade level COMPLETE
  • Entry should be done in Block Order!!! SGH.102
  • Master schedule concerns
  • Match Group Numbers?
  • Limit to class?
  • Adjustments to Absolute and Preferred Maximums -
    much easier using SCH.320 Index by 8 !!!

Scheduling Students
  • Resort Course Requests
  • Prioritize Students - or consider scheduling
    certain groups first (schedule singletons, link
    course kids 1st)
  • SCH.903 to lock down items and allow all else
    to reset
  • As schedule nears completions, consider backup!
  • KNOW HOW TO USE SCH.410 (Index 3, Multi C)

  • SCH.585 - conflicts by course (by student only
    LATE)
  • SCH.563 - Schedule by period with Grade Sub-total
  • SCH.569 - Group Total values by Block Teacher
  • Waitlist/unscheduled students showing Free time
  • SCH.569 to see teacher/student totals by block

SCH.610 Considerations
  • Do I schedule all students or by grade level or
    consider scheduling platoons/streams first?
  • What is an acceptable percentage value per grade
    level? Document annual success
  • Ensure that I place kids in the scheduler in good
    order (singletons, link courses, special so they
    schedule FIRST!)
  • When to stop Reset Y
  • What does Backup / Restore do?

  • LOG all changes to course/section and blocks so
    you can track success or lack of
  • Always look in SCH.563 to balance by grade level
    and totals by block!
  • Any change to SCH.320 means re-run SCH.610 !!!
  • SCH.563/560 - Schedule by Period/Course
  • SCH.566 - Unscheduled period analysis
