Title: Bitmap Editing

1
Lesson 1
  • Bitmap Editing

2
Objectives
  • Define the difference between bitmap and vector
    graphics
  • Identify elements of the Fireworks interface
  • Create and set up a new Fireworks document
  • Make selections in Bitmap mode
  • Edit bitmap images

3
Bitmaps versus Vector Graphics
4
Bitmaps
  • Bitmaps graphics are made from a collection of
    colored picture elements called pixels
  • Pixels are small dots or squares of different
    colors
  • Bitmaps record information pixel by pixel and
    color by color
  • Size is determined by the number of pixels and
colors used to define the range

7
Selecting Pixels
  • Magic Wand tool allows the user to select a range
    of pixels with similar color
  • A floating marquee indicates the area that is
    selected

8
Limitations of Bitmaps
  • When correcting bitmaps, you need to completely
erase or paint over a mistake
  • Bitmap images lose image quality when enlarged
  • Resolution-dependent
  • Resolution is the number of pixels in an image
and its clarity and fineness of detail

9
Vector Graphics
  • Vector graphics use mathematical formulas to
    describe the image
  • Provides more precise control when creating and
    editing the images
  • Vector Graphics composed of anchor points and
    straight or curved line segments

10
Advantages of Vector Graphics
  • Vector objects do not lose image quality when
    enlarged
  • Resolution-independent
  • Will retain appearance

Vector remains crisp
Bitmap is jagged blurry

Fireworks Editing Modes
  • Fireworks knows whether you are creating or
editing a vector object or a bitmap object based
on the tool that is selected
  • Tools are divided into clearly labeled sections

13
Floating and Tabbed Panels
  • Panels provide easy access to controls that help
    you edit objects or elements
  • Each panel is draggable to allow you to customize
    arrangements
  • By default, the panels are docked to the right
    side of the workspace
  • To undock a panel, drag the panel gripper in the
upper left corner of the panels title bar

14
Fireworks Tool Panel
  • Tools panel is divided into clearly labeled
    sections for easy tool selection
  • Can display the tools panel by clicking Window
    menu and then Tools
  • Small black triangle means that the tool is a
part of a group of tools
