Title: The Tibet Genocide

1
The Tibet Genocide
2
How did this start?
  • In 1949 China's People's Liberation Army invaded
Tibet, killing more than 10,000 citizens. The
attacks that they made were called Dragon
    Attacks.
  • The Dalai Lama made repeated attempts to
negotiate with China, but there were dismissed.

3
Tibetan Cultural Revolution
  • From 1958-1976 the Tibetan people were
experiencing some of the worst human rights
    abuses ever known.
  • The Chinese Peoples Liberation Army destroyed
countless Tibetan artifacts under the slogan
"Smash the Four Olds" old ideas, old culture,
    old customs and old habits.

4
A Prison State
  • ?From 1950-Present day more than 250,000 Tibetans
have died in prisons and labor camps. Many
Tibetan children are shut off from Tibetan
culture and subjected to beatings by teachers and
    authority figures.

5
Environmental Apocalypse
  • From 1960s-Present Day, toxic waste is being
dumped into rivers forests are being clear-cut
endangered species are hunted for sport and
nuclear-testing facilities are being built by the
Chinese in Tibet. Hundreds of thousands of
Tibetan people have died from famine and sickness.

Overview Of Tibet
  • This genocide was and still is China imposing
their rule over the country of Tibet. The people
of Tibet are being persecuted by the Chinese for
their history and culture. This conflict was
started by China in 1950, and is still going on
today. China does not recognize Tibet as an
independent country, instead a province of China.
The China Peoples Liberation army invaded Tibet
in 1950 and still occupy it today. Because
Chinas army was so large, and strong they were
easily able to start the genocide without much
resistance. If the Tibetan people had put up a
stronger defense, they may have been able ward
off the oncoming Chinese army. Approximately
300,000 Tibetan people have been killed, and
thousands more are in concentration camps. The
leader of China, Mao Zedong said "Religion is
poison.... Tibet and Mongolia have both been
poisoned by it." this states one of his main
reasons for persecuting the Tibetan people.
