    careers that will help them prosper and help
    Ontario grow.
  • The program is well subscribed as applications
    continue to come into our offices.
  • Average program duration is almost one year.

Client Profile
  • A 44 year old father with a high school diploma
    was laid off after working 10 years as a machine
    operator in the manufacturing sector. He is
    currently volunteering in a mens shelter and
    feels that training in social work to be come a
    worker in addictions and family counselling will
    provide him with marketable skills. MTCU has
    approved training for the Addictions and
    Community Services Worker diploma program at a
    private career College.
  • A 37 year old father, married with one child was
    laid off from the auto manufacturing sector. He
    has his high school certificate and Second Career
    will allow him to attend a public college to
    obtain a two-year diploma (67 weeks) in Computer
    Networking and Technical Support.

Next Steps
  • Building on the success of this program, MTCU is
    focusing on the completion of Second Career
    graduates through the following strategies
  • Assist graduates and potential graduates in
    finding employment opportunities.
  • Build awareness of the Employment Ontario (EO)
    training programs with the employer community in
    order to create appropriate linkages in
    communities that will support employers to hire
    skilled workers.
  • Conduct a client analysis survey and focus groups
    to examine training completion and client
    satisfaction in the first year of program
    implementation.
