Introduction to Municipal Hazardous or Special
Waste (MHSW) Program

• Basis for MHSW ProgramWaste Diversion Act
• Stewardship Ontarioindustry funding organization
  for MHSW ( Blue Box wastes)
• Program Plan contains Rules
• requires MHSM brand owners 1st importers to
  report/pay quarterly fees on sales of MHSM
• Phase 1 materials started July 1
• Phases 2 3 under development

Obligations Timelines

• Reports fee payments due quarterly
• 1st reporting period July 1-September 30, 2008
• 1st report must be filed by October 31, 2008
• 1st payment due October 31, 2008
• Penalties interest charged for late
  reports/payments
• no extensions
• Complete reporting schedule in Guidebook 1
• Appendix D

Preparing to File a MHSM Report

• Confirm status as registered MHSM steward
• https//www.mhsmreporting.ca
• access from MHSM Steward area of website
• Locate user name password
• emailed after registration
• Assemble MHSM sales/quantities data for July
  1September 30, 2008
• Adobe Reader needed to view report invoice
• Log-in to main menu of MHSM reporting system
