Key Christian Beliefs

• God created everything
• God created sex
• Sex is not inherently evil, it is a good thing
• Sex is the method of pro-creation
• The only proper and moral context for sex is
  within a marriage
• Therefore pre-marital and extra-marital sex are
  immoral
• The Christian ideal is however a life of celibacy

Key Muslim Beliefs

• Allah created everything, including sex

• Sex is the method of pro-creation

  within a marriage
• Pre-marital and extra-marital sex are immoral
• The Muslim ideal is married life with children
• Allah blesses and rewards marital sex

Contraception Christian View

• Roman Catholics Natural Law The purpose of sex
  is procreation, any action against this is sinful
  e.g. masturbation, contraception, abortion etc.
• Roman Catholics may accept the use of natural
  methods of contraception such as the rhythm
  method
• Other denominations (C of E etc) accept
  contraception within marriage if both partners
  agree
• Sex is an expression of love, not just for
  procreation

Contraception Muslim View

• Beginning and ending life is the role of Allah
  alone some see any interference with this as
  sinful
• Some accept the use of natural methods such as
  the rhythm method
• Some accept the use of the withdrawal method as
  Muhammad reportedly used it and he is a role
  model
• Many find the use of any means of contraception
  acceptable in a marriage, if both agree and, if a
  pregnancy would put the health of the woman or
  any existing children at risk

Homosexuality Christian View

• Homosexuality is sinful and is directly forbidden
  and punished by God in the Bible
• Loving attitude toward all people
• Love the sinner, hate the sin Not a sin to be
  homosexual, but sinful to have homosexual sex
• Only moral context for sex is between a man and
  wife

Homosexuality Muslim View

• Homosexuality is at best an illness or disease,
  at worst it is a sexual deviation or perversion
• Homosexuality is totally against the will of
  Allah and is sinful
• Directly forbidden in the Quran
• Muslim ideal is for every man to be joined in
  marriage to a woman and for them to have children
