Facts figures
  • Major programme within VLIR-UOS cooperation gt
    about 30 of annual budget
  • Budget Nearly 7 million Euro over 12 years
    (including phase in, partner programme and
    post-programme)
  • Max 10 years (2x5 years), with a maximum of
    745.000 / year of earmarked funding but overall
    cycle of 15-17 years
  • The IUC Programme started in 1997 with 4 partners
  • Currently 19 partners in 3 continents, of which
    16 still benefit from some kind of earmarked

IDENTIFICATION PHASE PARTNER PROGRAMME (IPPP)

    of the partner institutions (only Flemish actor

With regard to this identification stage, please
bear in mind that
  • programme and project proposals are indicative
    (Identification Stage Partner Programme Proposal)
    with corresponding support needs - there is room
    for change and adaptation of the design!
  • that at this stage there are no Flemish teams,
    henceforth all is open but please be careful
    with pre-mature commitments!
  • A match seems plausible gt accept and build upon
    a win-win concept!
  • to be receptive but dare to be critical and
    assist in shaping ideas jointly

2. MATCH MAKING AND APPOINTING FLEMISH PROJECT
LEADERS
  • Presenting and "selling" your programme towards
    Flemish university stakeholders
  • One week mission central programme sessions
    organised by VLIR-UOS and campus visits organised
    by the Flemish universities (ICOS)
  • Resulting in

3. FORMULATION MISSION
  • Flemish project leaders travel to the partner
    university
  • One week workshop

  • Project level workshops (with relevant external
    stakeholders) for stakeholder, problem analysis
    and basic project formulation (logframe,

4. IUC positions Flemish level
  • A project leader in charge of the implementation
    of one project of a partner programme. An IUC
    project leader must have tenure at a Flemish
    university or university college (hogeschool).
    He/she must
  • have the academic competence needed to carry out
    and/or guide the project
  • have permission to enter into financial
    undertakings on behalf of his/her institution
  • be affiliated with the institution at least as
    long as the duration of the project (5 years).
  • Annually, VLIR-UOS provides a small compensation
    to the department of each project leader.
  • An academic team member works under the guidance
    of the Flemish project leader in terms of
    delivering academic services to the project.
    These could take the form of supervision of
    scholars, visitings, consultancy services etc.
  • Also staff members of institutions other than
    Flemish universities or university colleges can
    join an IUC project team.
  • A technical team member works under the guidance
    of the Flemish project leader in terms of
    delivering technical services to the project.

APPRAISING INTERESTED FLEMISH ACADEMICS POSSIBLE

Appointment of Flemish Project Leaders
  • Open call for PL positions launched on 10 march
    2009 gt deadline 8 April 2009
  • Results forwarded to the Flemish and local
    coordinator for their ranking and advice. Among
    other, the appraisal of candidacies will be based
    on academic expertise, interest and motivation,
    experience etc
  • This advice should be submitted to VLIR-UOS, at
    the latest, by Wednesday 14 April 2009.
  • VLIR-UOS will appoint the Flemish IUC project
    leaders on Friday 24 April 2009
