RESPONSE TO THE FEBRUARY 4 REVIEW
SHORT TERM
Septum magnet out to bid.
Bid package for steel leaving now. Coil forms
and vacuum box still in final design.
Test beam for rates, time resolution, Pb-glass.
Scintillators, MWPC, and Pb-glass tested.
Breakup and elastic cross sections seen. Beam
too low for rate tolerance.
Analysis of test run for PID efficiency.
Done.
Design of target box.
Deferred in new management plan.
Increase scientific personnel.
EJS and TR roles increased. More people arrive
this summer.
Develop management plan.
Tom Rinckel is manager. Plan development
underway.
Increase laboratory technical support.
Major shortfall is design.
LONGER TERM SUGGESTIONS
Advance date of first running. Include more
sensitivity goals.
New plan commissions channel first. Goals being
explored.
Dont reinvent polarimeter and luminosity monitor.
Polarimeter will be PINTEX. Monitor will follow
previous methods.
Simulations needed.
Most critical cases underway and have had design
impact.
Consider interference with tagger.
New plan delays conflict.
Assign responsibilities for subsystems.
Underway but limited by personnel resources and
talents.
Work to improve rate capability.
Next deuteron beam development in the fall. More
test time needed for detector rate handling
(newer designs?).
