CLOTHES
Fact file The Vikings used 300 sheep a year for
clothes.
Like most people in Europe at the time Vikings
used wool more then anything else for making
clothes. year.The Vikings normally put on long
woollen shirts and long woollen trousers witch
were held up by straw.The women wore long linen
dresses.

Homes
Most people lived on farms.There houses were
built of wood,stone or blocks of turf with
thatched roofs.Most houses have only one room.
However rich peoples farmhouses often have a
small entrance hall.A large main room is a
kitchen,bedroom and a storage room.

Transport
The ships had one large square sail.In bad
weather it was lowered over the ship and fastened
down like a tent to protect the men inside.Viking
ships were called long ships.A big long ship
would be about 30meters and could travel at 32km
per hour.It would have about 32oars.The Vikings
carved the prow of their ships into curved
shapes such as a head of a dragon or another
animal.The gaps between the planks of the ships
were made water proof by filling them with
sheep's wool dipped in tar. The ships had names
which reflected the shape of the prow,likeLong
Serpent,snake of the sea and horse of the home
of ice

Food
The Viking people always eat lots of protein food
that was diet food and healthy food.For e.g.
carrot, fish, egg, meat, fruit,cereal and
pulses.Old Vikings always drank goat milk because
it makes you strong.

War
About the year 800, bands of fierce raiders
began to attack our coasts. They were the
Vikings. They came across the North Sea, just as
the Anglo-Saxons had done 400 years earlier. In
time, like the Anglo-Saxons, they made their home
here. They drove the Saxons out of part of the
country and took it for themselves.
