Food for Thought (Ray)
  • To help your children understand the nature of
God and His Moral Law, talk to them about some of
    Gods natural laws.
  • Call your kids over to the refrigerator and take
    out an egg.
  • Then, while they are watching, drop it onto the
    kitchen floor.

7
  • I know what you are thinking I cant drop an egg
on the floor! Yes, you can its easy. Your
children will forget the thousands of eggsthat
you carefully handled, but I am sure they will
remember this one because it was deliberately
    dropped.
  • Perhaps even in years to come, each time they
take an egg from the refrigeratorthey will
remember the valuable lesson they learned this
    day.
  • Now ask your children why the egg broke.
  • Ask what would happen to us if we jumped out of a
plane without a parachute and landed on the
    ground.

8
  • Many an optimistic, shallow-thinking skydiver has
ended up like the egg on the floor, because he
was foolish enough to toy with the invisible law
of gravity. His cheap thrill cost him his
life.Explain the law of gravity to your kids.
Look up gravity on the Internet or in a book,
and then relate it to God as the Creator of the
    natural laws.
  • Remind them of the fate of theegg, and let their
eyes widen a little at the thought of
    transgressing its precepts.The consequences for
breaking gravitational or electrical laws are
fearful. But they pale in the shadow of
transgressing the eternal Moral Law of God.

9
  • My feeble words cant expresswhat God is like,
but His Law gives us insight into His holy
nature. The Law reveals utter holiness, supreme
righteousness, and absolute truth. God has a
terrifying and violent passion for justice.
  • The Israelites were terrified when God spoke to
them on Mount Sinaiand at the time He was merely
giving them the Law, not revealing His anger when
    they broke its commands.

1. How would you respond if someone said,
  • The Ten Commandments have nothing to do with the
    gospel?

12
2. Give examples
  • of Jesus using the Law to bring the knowledge of
    sin.

13
3. Most people are hesitant to admit
  • that they have stolen, so what is a good way to
    ask the question?

14
4. What would you say to someone
  • who argued that they had stolen in the past?

15
5. Why is the value of a stolen item irrelevant?
16
6. Why should we appeal to the conscience
  • when we speak to people?

17
7. Give examples of things
  • that people steal, including subtle things that
many people take without a second thought.

18
8. What is it that gives sinners a sense of
security in their sin?
19
9. Why is it a sad testimony
  • to human nature when someone doing a good deed
    makes national news?

20
10. How can you help people see
  • that even petty theft is a serious sin?

21
Encouragement
  • I recently returned from Brazil where I shared
the gospel with many people. I started with
creation, telling them that Godcreated them and
everything they see, but that man rebelled
    against God.
  • I told them God gave His Law to show us that we
have sinned against Him, then I went through the
Law one by one. In almost every home I preached
in, the people weresomewhat unconcerned until I
went through the Law. It was so incredible. The
guys who were with me noticed the same thing.
They saw the deer in the headlights look on
peoplesfaces when I brought out the Law.

22
  • They realized why I shared the Ten Commandments
before I could explain it. They knew, simply
because of the reaction of the people when I got
to that point in the message. What a testimony to
the conviction ofthe Holy Spirit through the
    Law.
  • Only two people (out of about 5070) rejected the
gospel during the week I was there. The first
home I preached in, one couple broke down crying
when I went through the Law.
  • The woman was a witch, but she came to Christ.
Another lady who was studying at the Seventh Day
Adventist church broke down crying when I
continued to press her, Why would God let you, a
sinner, into heaven on the Day of Judgment?

23
  • She yielded her life to Christ. Jehovahs
Witnesses who came to Christ set up meetings with
their friends within two days because they wanted
their friends to hear the gospel presented to
them. It was incredible.Ky F., Louisiana
