Introduction

• In this presentation, we will tell you everything
  we know about props.
• What they are, how theyre used and different
  types of props.
• We will then finish of by acting a couple of
  scenes to show you the main uses of props.

What is a Prop?

• A prop is short for theatrical property.
• Its an item used in a production or play to
  further the action.
• It gives the scenery, stage or action a specific
  place, period or character.
• Props are chosen for a specific reason.
• Props can be things like

Types of Props

• There are 2 main categories of props
• -props which the actors use or carry.
• -Props for dressing the set.
• There are 3 main uses of props
• -pre-set
• -hand-held
• -personal

Pre-Set

• Its an object which has been put on the set prior
  tp the performance and is usually part of the
  set.
• Examples Telephone, Vase etc.

Hand-Held

• An object which is carried by the actor,
  throughout most of the play/production.
• Examples mobile, handbag, suitcase etc.

Personal

• Usually part of the characters costume.
• Actors are responsible for looking after their
  props.
• Examples A ring, hat etc.

Uses of Props

• They can highlight the main theme of a play or
  production.
• Sometimes even a tiny prop can be the main part
  of a whole production. E.g. Lord of the Rings
• It can highlight the type of character or how
  he/she is seen.
• It can also tell you where or when the play is
  set.
