Title: The AMazeing Heat Cornburner

1
TheA-Maze-ing Heat Cornburner
2
The process starts when the corn is delivered, in
bulk and augered into the corn bin.
3
The Corn Runs Downhill.
ltltltlt The corn gravity feeds down into the
basement.
In the basement we collect it in bucketfulsgtgtgtgtgt
4
Buckets of Corn are Dumped into the Hopper
  • Bucket loads are dumped in
  • This can burn for a week
  • We screen it as we put it in
  • Hopper holds 500 lbs. of corn
  • No mice have ever gotten into it
  • It needs to be emptied out in Spring

5
The 1st Auger (2 rpm)
At the bottom of the hopper the corn drops down
where an auger begins moving the corn toward the
furnace.
A timer can be set to control how long this auger
goes off and on. We have it at 10 sec. on and 12
sec. off.
6
The corn is moved on to the 2nd auger (4 rpm)
  • Corn drops when it hits the firebreak hole
  • The 2nd auger then pushes it into to bottom of
    the firepot
  • The 2nd auger runs steadily whenever the
    thermostat calls for heat.

7
Corn augers into bottom of the firepot
The corn feeds the fire from the bottom while the
fire burns down from the top
  • This is a boiler furnace
  • This fire can heat the water extremely hot!!
  • But NO, it never POPS!!!

8
Blast Furnace Effect
While the corn is being fed into the fire pot a
blower adds air to fan the fire.
9
The Firepot
10
The Water Pump
  • A water pump circulates the water from the
cornburning boiler to the baseboard vents on the
    main floor of the house.
  • It only goes on when the thermostat on the main
    floor calls for heat.
  • This is a very steady, quiet, and non-smelly
    method of heating.
