How Often Should It Be Run?
  • The frequency that you run the report will depend
    on a number of factors
  • Size of site
  • Frequency of changes to site
  • Number of people contributing to the site
  • Rule of thumb
  • Link check reports should be run and links
    corrected monthly.
  • Accessibility checks should be run and corrected
    quarterly.

Will e-Michigan be checking up on you?
  • YES
  • e-Michigan will run our own reports periodically
    which will be used to verify how well you are
    maintaining your site.
  • These reports will be sent to the Site
    Administrators for corrective action.

How To Run A Report
  • Complete Report (ADA Link Verification)

Access the Software
  • Start gt Program Files gt HiSoftware AccVerify gt
    AccVerify Professional

Create a Project
  • For each report you will run regularly
  • File gt Project gt New

Project Name
  • Enter the Project Name
  • Specify the type of project Internet Based
    (Automated Crawler)

Enter the URL for the Project
  • If there is a start file, enter it (usually not
    in Michigan.gov)
  • Check the Run accessibility checks box
  • Check the Use default file types radio button

File Selection Tab
  • Check the Start Automated Browse File Selection
    when project is opened check box.

Authentication Tab
  • Enter any authentication information that may be
    required (generally not needed if a Michigan.gov
    site)

Browse Options
  • Check all the check boxes
  • Set the number of levels to crawl
  • The fewer the levels, the faster the report will
    complete, but the less of your site will be
    verified.
  • The greater the levels, the longer it will take,
    but the more of your site will be done.
  • To get your whole site, generally no more than 5
    levels are needed for a very large site.

  • Select a browser to emulate, if desired. If none
    desired, select AccVerify

  • Select the Report Detail tab
  • Under the Report Detail Options select the second
    radio button Show only Failures or Warnings

    button
  • Uncheck the items you dont want to see reported.
    Make sure to keep Failed items checked.

  • Shows pages that have a SCRIPT element but do not
    include a NOSCRIPT element. NOSCRIPT elements are
    necessary whenever a SCRIPT is being used for ADA
    compliance

Title Element Errors
  • Shows pages that either do not have Title text or
    multiple pages that have the same title text.
    Please note that some pages are the same content
    ID with different category IDs. This does not
    need correcting.

Other Errors Codes
  • 12002 - time out - the system didn't have time to
    check the error before the network timed out
  • 12029 - is a firewall issue - the link it is
    trying to verify is behind a firewall that it
    cannot cross
  • 12031 - it lost the connection to the server for
    some reason - treat it as a timeout
  • 405 - relates to a form - check to make sure the
    form is working
  • 500 - Internal server error - if it is one of
    your pages - there is a problem with the page. If
    it is a link to another site - the link is
    broken.
  • Error - is undefined - check them out

  • Run Reports Regularly
  • ADA Compliance needs to be done right away and
    once a quarter
  • Link checking needs to be done at least once a
    month
  • Make Corrections Each Time
  • Over time, the number of errors will reduce
