  packaging, transportation to secure storage
• Partial funding needed for field searches to
  locate and secure additional sources outside of
  regulatory control

Developing a Long-Term Radioactive Source Storage
Facility(Fact Sheet Project 6)

• A single storage facility in the Chernobyl
  Exclusion Zone would replace the current regional
  Radons as a long-term solution
• UK plans to fund design and construction
• Ukraine will fund some infrastructure
  requirements
• Additional funds needed to package sources and
  transport them to new facility

Sheet Project 7)

• Odesa and Illichevsk seaports to be upgraded in
  early 2008 several more need upgrades
• Primary need is additional Aspekt portal
  monitors also hand-held radiation equipment,
  computers, communications equipment, and
  installation and training
• U.S. can work with potential donors to match
  interests to specific sites and needs

  many more need upgrades

  installation and training

  interests to specific sites and needs

• Some work underway on Moldovan border (U.S. DOD)
  and one region of Belarusian border
  (Canada/IAEA) much more assistance needed
• Ukraine has developed detailed proposal for
  further improvements on Belarus border
• Needs include hand-held radiation equipment,
  vehicles, sensors, communications equipment, and
  training
• U.S. can work with potential donors to match
  interests to specific needs

• U.S. DOD and Sweden providing assistance to
  outfit ships many additional ships need
  outfitting
• Needs include radiation detectors, related
  equipment, communications equipment, and training
