  Indians in Texas.
• They were very religious and caring men who
  really did care about the Native Texans.
• They were hardworking and joyous men who did
  their best to help everyone around them.

• All Spanish Friars in Texas were members of the
  FRANCISCAN order.
• This means that they styled their lives after a
  man named St. Francis of Assisi, a 13th Century
  Italian Saint.
• They made three vows Poverty (to be poor),
  Chastity (to not have a wife), and Obedience (to
  always obey God and their superiors)

• Most people think of Friars as short, balding,
  and fat. Friars are regular people they came in
  all shapes and sizes.
• They wore the outfit of a medieval beggar.
• This outfit included a few things.
• 1. A grey wool robe with a hood.
• 2. a rope belt, called a cincture. It had three
  knots to remind them of their vows.

• 3. A rosary hanging from their belt (prayer
  beads)
• 4. A pouch to carry things like a bible or
  journal.
• 5. A wide brimmed travel hat.
• 6. A walking stick, because they never rode
  horses. They walked wherever they went.

• Daily Schedule
• 2am Wake up. Morning prayer and meditation until
  7am.
• 7am Have church services, then eat breakfast.
• 9am Taught children religion, music, and
  languages.
• 10am Visit the sick and elderly.
• 11am Midday meal fruit, soup, milk, and bread.

• Noon Went to the church to pray.
• 2pm Friars would either help with work or write
  letters or journals.
• 3pm Friar would now pray for an hour.
• 4pm Friars went to work with the children again,
  instructing them in music or games.
• 5pm One hour of alone praying, following by one
  hour of group praying.

• After dinner, they would play cards and socialize
  or pray and go to bed.
