WHAT IS A NOUN?
a noun is a word that is a person, place or thing

COMMON NOUNS

• Nouns that do not name a specific person, place
  or thing
• are called common nouns!

Examples The boy ran to the store.
Notice that the boy is not named nor is the
store, so we do NOT capitalize those two nouns!

PROPER NOUNS

• A proper noun is a word that is the name of a
  specific
• person, place or thing

For example John ran all the way to Smiths to
buy some candy.
John is the name of a person and Smiths is the
name of a store.

VERBS
A verb is a word that shows action!

LINKING VERBS
A few verbs dont show action. They just tell how
something is. They link the subject of the
sentence with the end of the sentence
(predicate).
For example
is links ham and pineapple to food
Ham and pineapple pizza is my favorite
food. This chocolate tastes divine! Her outfit
seemed very out of date.
