  • Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

2
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • Review
  • Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus
  • Servants Slaves
  • Everyone is a slave to someone or something

3
Should I Stay or Should I G0?
  • In Christ Paul is free to
  •
  • Wait until the bigger picture becomes clear
  • Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has
happened to me has really served to advance the
    gospel- Philippians 112

4
Should I Stay or Should I G0?
  • advance the gospelprogress amid difficulties

5
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • In Christ Paul is free
  • From the pity-party so he get beyond himself to
what God is doing through him

6
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • As a result, it has become clear throughout the
whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am
in chains for Christ. Because of my chains, most
of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged
to speak the word of God more courageously and
    fearlessly- vs. 13-14

7
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • Clearfor Christ Pauls relationship with Jesus
  •
  • How have people been encouraged to speak the Word
    of God more courageously?

8
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • and everyone else- vs. 13
  • When we got to Rome, Paul was allowed to live by
himself, with a soldier to guard him. Three days
later he called together the leaders of the Jews.
When they had assembled, Paul said to them "My
brothers, although I have done nothing against
our people or against the customs of our
ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed
    over to the Romans

9
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • They examined me and wanted to release me,
because I was not guilty of any crime deserving
death. But when the Jews objected, I was
compelled to appeal to Caesarnot that I had any
charge to bring against my own people. For this
reason I have asked to see you and talk with you.
It is because of the hope of Israel that I am
bound with this chain- Acts 2816-20

10
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • The opportunity to see God at work in and through
me doesnt begin until the pity-party ends
  • Let us fix our eyes on Jesuswho endured such
opposition from sinful men, so that you will not
grow weary and lose heart- Hebrews 122-3

11
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • It is true that some preach Christ out of envy
and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The
latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here
for the defense of the gospel. The former preach
Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely,
supposing that they can stir up trouble for me
while I am in chains- vs. 15-17

12
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • Who does Paul feel is responsible for his
    circumstances?
  • Is it possible to do the right thing for the
    wrong reason? Is that right?

13
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • Who does Paul feel is responsible for his
    circumstances?
  • Is it possible to do the right thing for the
    wrong reason? Is that right?

14
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • In Christ, Paul is free
  • To see beyond personal pain to Gods plan

15
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • But what does it matter? The important thing is
that in every way, whether from false motives or
true, Christ is preached. And because of this I
rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice-
    vs. 18-19a

16
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • In Christ, Paul is free
  • To see the purpose of his life Christ exalted
  • for I know that through your prayers and the
help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what
has happened to me will turn out for my
deliverance. eagerly expect and hope that I will
in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient
courage so that now as always Christ will be
exalted in my body, whether by life or by death-
    vs. 19b-20

17
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • your prayers help given by the Spirit of Jesus
    Christ
  • Our prayers move the hand of God

18
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • deliverance- unashamed, courageous, faithful till
    the end
  • eagerly expect and hope- stretching head forward
    to focus upon
  • Goal Courage to make sure Christ is exalted

19
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • In Christ, Paul is free
  • To choose to serve Christs people
  • For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
If I am to go on living in the body, this will
mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I
    choose?...

20
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • I do not know! I am torn between the two I
desire to depart and be with Christ, which is
better by far but it is more necessary for you
that I remain in the body

21
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • Convinced of this, I know that I will remain,
and I will continue with all of you for your
progress and joy in the faith, so that through my
being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus
will overflow on account of me- vs. 21-26

22
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • When you make your life about Jesus
  • Your greatest decisions are guided by how best to
point the way to Jesus for people to see
  • Your greatest Jesus is seeing people know him and
    grow in him

23
Should I Stay or Should I Go?
  • When you make your life about Jesus
  • Your greatest freedom is knowing that God is
charge regardless of what happens to you- and
that brings great confidence and incredible joy
