Towards an Implementation Plan (priorities)

• Formalizing to do list (everyone loves Project)
• Have gotten the OK to use some of Ken Domanns
  time to set up and official straw man project for
  this effort.
• Will schedule a small briefing meeting with him
  ASAP.
• This will help us focus our efforts, nail down a
  time line, and identify required resources.
• Piggyback on ANU wherever possible, in particular
• Be in a position to implement Recycler extraction
  at the same time as the other major Recycler
  work, and thus decouple the rest of the effort
  from the active program.
• Possibly get in on any prep work involving
  services or penetrations (comments, Dixon?)
• Important to keep Nancy in the loop.
• Ken already intimately familiar with ANU time
  line.
• Must begin to address radiation issues from day
  one.
• The necessary studies and calculations for a
  Booster-style protection system will take a great
  deal of time and effort (Booster shielding
  assessment fills seven volumes).

Direction in pBar?

• Current reverse proton direction
  (counterclockwise).
• Advantage
• Can use existing lines for injection into
  Accumulator and transfer to Debuncher.
• Disadvantage
• Complicates potential future AP4 line directly
  from Booster, as well as AP5 line back to MI-8
• Current pBar direction (clockwise)
• Advantage
• Simplifies design of potential AP4 and AP5 lines.
• Disadvantage
• Must rearrange transfer lines within the pBar
  enclosure (need to work out more details about
  this)
• Must have a working assumption about direction
  for LOI
• Need to examine in detail implications for
  experimental beamline, as well as AP4 and AP5.

Question for Discussion

• Would it make sense to decouple the effort to get
  protons to the Accumulator/Debuncher from mu2e or
  anything else we might want to do with them?
• That part alone will be pretty cheap, bordering
  on no brainer.
• Might allow us to begin with the prep work under
  the wire.
• Should get Steve and Piers opinion about this.
