2Myofascial Therapy
Myofascial Therapy is - Physical therapy
treatments applied to skeletal muscles and
their connective tissues - It is a therapy used
to help prevent injury to soft tissue areas
and tendons. - This form of therapy uses long
stretching strokes to stretch connective
tissues that surround the muscles. - It is
effective in relaxing and often relieving chronic
pain
3Cryotherapy
One form of Cryotherapy commonly used for
Achilles Tendonitis is Cryokinetics -
Cryokinetics is numbing of injury in order to
perform strengthening exercises without
pain. - To perform Cryokinetics, the athlete
must 1) put injured foot into a slush
bucket 2) After 20 minutes, athlete must
perform strengthening exercises.(Listed
in Strengthening Section) 3) This should help
the athlete strengthen the Achilles
tendon without causing more damage or pain.
4Electrical Stimulation Therapy
- Use of Electrical Current to transfer energy to
an injury to stimulate cells for faster
healing. - It is produced by electrodes that are
attached to the injury. - The electric current
that is passed through to the Achilles Tendon
causes it to contract much like it does during
ordinary physical exercise. - This works out
the Achilles Tendon to help it strengthen and
heal when it is injured.
5Thermotherapy
Hydrocollator packs - Moist heating method -
Used to reduce pain and stiffness - Heat
treatments such as the Hydrocollator pack help
to relax muscles and stimulate blood
circulation. - This helps to heal the Achilles
Tendonitis because it circulates blood to the
injury and allows the tendon to heal itself
6Massage Therapy
One common type of massage therapy used for
Achilles Tendonitis is Friction Massage
Therapy. -Friction Massage is used to get rid of
inflammation by breaking up disorderly
organized scar tissue. - It is usually painful
for the patient, but provides quick
relief. - It is performed by placing finger over
the Achilles Tendon and gently pushing the
skin in different directions, holding the
position for five seconds.
