How AIDS/HIV Effect You.
  • By Kayla

Statistics
  • 3.1 million people in the USA in 2004 died from
    AIDS.
  • 39.4 million people around the world are living
    with AIDS/HIV.
  • 25 million children are orphans because of
    AIDS/HIV.
  • Over27 million people have died from AIDS/HIV
    since 1980.
  • Approximately 11 out of every 1,000 adults are
    HIV infected.

3
What Is HIV?
  • The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the
virus that causes AIDS.HIV belongs to a subset
of retroviruses called lent viruses (or slow
viruses), which means that there is an interval
sometimes years between each of the initial
infection and the onset of symptoms. When
entering the bloodstream through mucous membranes
or blood-to-blood contact HIV infects the CD4T
    cells and begins to replicate

4
What Is AIDS?
  • HIV is short for human immunodeficiency virus,
which is the virus that causes AIDS. This virus
is passed from one person to another through
blood-to-blood. Also infected pregnant women can
pass HIV to their baby during pregnancy or
delivery. People with HIV have what is commonly
called an HIV infection but sometimes it is also
called the AIDS virus. Viruses are germs that can
cause illness in humans. As an example, measles,
mumps, chicken pox and the flu are all caused by
viruses. Viruses cant reproduce on their own.
They can only reproduce by using cells of other
humans or animals. In humans, different viruses
infect different cells and cause different sorts
of illnesses. For example, HIV infects the cells
of the 'immune system' the very thing the body
uses to fight against germs. Most people with HIV
will eventually develop AIDS as a result of their
    HIV infection.

5
How HIV Causes AIDS.
  • An important focus of the national institute of
allergy and infectious diseases is research
devoted to the pathogenesis of human
immunodeficiency virus HIV disease three forth of
the complex mechanisms that result in the
destruction of the immune system of an
HIV-infected person. A detailed understanding of
HIV and how it establishes infection and causes
the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome AIDS is
crucial to identifying and developing effective
drugs and vaccines to fight HIV and AIDS.

6
Whats the Difference. Are They the Same?
  • HIV attacks the body's immune system. When it
does, HIV weakens the body's ability to fight off
infection. If left untreated, HIV will eventually
weaken the immune system so much that the person
will become sick from certain types of
infections. When the person gets these
infections, he or she is said to have AIDS. For
some, it takes a long time to develop these
infections and therefore AIDS. For others it
takes less time. Not everyone with HIV has AIDS
and AIDS is not the same as HIV.

7
Are Aids Caused by Any Type of Tobacco?
  • No, aids are only caused by five types of
immunological stressor agents can alter the
functioning of the immune system chemical,
    physical, biological, mental, and nutritional.
  • But all though aids arent caused by tobacco,
tobacco can still cause many other problems.

8
Do Chinese Have the Cure for AIDS/HIV?
  • HY99 is an "immunity-rebuilding suppository",
it strengthens the weakening immune system of
patients, reduces the risk of "opportunistic
infections". It improves the psychological and
physical conditions of the patients, and enables
them to live a normal living. So yes Chinese do
    have a working medicine.

9
Can You Get Aids From Your Parents?
  • Yes, if your parents have aids than are more than
likely to have them too. If you do have aids
treat them as soon as possible.

10
Drugs Can Not Help Cure Aids.
  • Researchers believe antiretroviral therapy will
not stop HIV epidemics even if it is made
universally available in poorer countries, and
that widespread use could even lead to an
increase in the numbers infected with HIV.

11
Where Do Aids Come From?
  • AIDS will probably never be traced to its
immediate source, but scientists now know that
the disease is native to the central African
nations of Zaire, Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda,
Tanzania and Kenya, and that there is a species
of monkey that abounds in that region, called the
African "green", which carries a virus very
similar in structure to that of the AIDS virus
and in the very blood cells that AIDS prefers.
