    meeting on gun crime
  • Held 19-20 January 2004 at Botanic Gardens,
    Birmingham
  • Advisory panel helped put together invitation
    list and devise programme
  • 200 delegates, including more than 50 young
    people, community and voluntary service
    representatives, law enforcement, and
    policy-makers

  • Innovative, participatory approach
  • First day, developed historical timelines and
    explored delegates experience of gun crime
  • Second day featured workshops run by delegates on
    Open Space model, enabling delegates to shape
    the content of the event

  • 250,000 for small grants for small community
  • groups working on tackling gun crime
  • Primarily for capacity building
  • Non-bureaucratic approach, including simple,
  • 2-page application form
  • Wide variety of organisations/projects
    applied -
  • provided funding for 54 before Fund closed
  • Second round now under way

  • In 2003-04, allocated 1.2 million from
    recycled
  • criminal assets for work on gun crime
  • Further 2 million allocated for 2004-05
  • Stakeholder consultation on criteria
  • Primarily channelled via Government Offices
    for
  • the Regions who work closely with local
  • community groups and voluntary organisations
