Selecting Text
  • Selecting - highlighting a block of text.
  • Select text by holding down the left button of
    the mouse and dragging the pointer to the end of
    the text that you want to select.

Show/Hide
  • Show/Hide allows you to view hidden formatting
    characters such as spaces, paragraph returns, and
    end-of-line marks in a document.
  • Click the Show/Hide button on the formatting
    toolbar.

Backspace, Delete, and Overtype Text
  • Backspace key - deletes characters to the left of
    the insertion point.
  • Delete key deletes characters to the right of
    the insertion point.
  • Overtype replaces or types over existing text.
    Double-click OVR on the status bar or strike the
    Insert key.

Clipboard
  • Clipboard a temporary
    storage place in the
    computers memory.
  • The Clipboard is displayed in
    the task pane.

Cutting Text
  • Cut removes selected text from the document and
    places it on the Clipboard.
  • Open the Edit menu and choose Cut, or click the
    Cut button on the Standard toolbar.

Pasting Text
  • Paste text is copied from the Clipboard to the
    location of the insertion point in the document.
  • Open the Edit menu and choose Paste, or click the
    Paste button on the Standard toolbar.

Copying Text
  • Copy a copy of the selected text is placed on
    the Clipboard while the original text remains in
    the document.
  • Open the Edit menu and choose Copy, or click the
    Copy button on the Standard toolbar.

Find and Replace Commands
  • Find and Replace editing commands that find a
    specific word in a document and allow you to
    replace it with a new word.
  • Open the Edit menu
    and choose Find or
    Replace.

Go To Command
  • Go To allows you to skip to a specific part of
    a document.
  • Open the Edit menu and choose Go To.

Word Count
  • Word Count counts the pages, words, characters,
    paragraphs, and lines in a document.
  • Open the Tools menu and
    choose Word Count.

Working with Graphics
  • Graphics pictures that illustrate the meaning
    of text and make the page more attractive.
  • Word has predefined pictures, diagrams, shapes,
    and pictures.
  • Word also includes drawing tools that enable you
    to create your own graphics and add them to your
    documents.

Creating Columns
  • Sometimes a document, such as a newsletter, can
    be more effective if the text is formatted in
    multiple columns.
  • Open the Format menu
    and choose Columns,
    or click the Columns
    button on the Formatting.

Borders
  • Borders single, double, thick, or dotted lines
    that appear around words or paragraphs.
  • Open the Format menu
    and choose Borders
    and Shading. In the
    Borders and Shading
    dialog box, select the
    Borders tab.

  • Shading adding color, grays, or patterns to
    lines or paragraphs to emphasize text.
  • Open the Format menu
    and choose Borders
    and Shading. In the
    Borders and Shading
    dialog box,
    select the
    Shading tab.

Inserting Clip Art
  • Clip art graphics that are already drawn and
    available for use in documents.
  • Open the Insert menu and choose Picture. Choose
    Clip Art on the submenu. The Insert Clip Art task
    pane appears.
  • Key a descriptive word in the Search for box, and
    Word will search for images that match the text
    you entered.

Selecting Clip Art
  • To edit clip art, it must be selected. Position
    the insertion point over the clip art and click.
  • Selection rectangle box with eight small
    squares that appears around the clip art when it
    is selected.
  • Sizing handles squares on the selection
    rectangle used to adjust the size of the clip art.

Adding Borders to Pages
  • Select the Page Border tab in the Borders and
    Shading dialog box. Choose the setting, line
    style, width, and color for the border.
  • The Art box has
    predefined art
    borders.

Drawing Graphics
  • The Drawing toolbar contains buttons for drawing
    and manipulating objects such as lines, arcs,
    rectangles, circles, and free-form shapes.

  • Objects that have been drawn can be resized, cut,
    and copied. You can also add color and change the
    line style.

Text Box
  • You can add text to a document by adding a text
    box.
  • Open the Insert menu and choose Text Box, or
    click the Text Box button on the Drawing toolbar.

Diagrams and Charts
  • Diagrams and charts - organize information in
    illustrations so that the relationships of the
    data can be better understood.
  • Open the Insert menu and choose Diagram. A
    Diagram Gallery appears.

    added to the diagram and chart.

  • You can speed operations by selecting blocks of

  • The Show/Hide command allows you to view hidden
