THE HISTIOCYTOSES

• Histiocytic diseases are characterized by the
  abnormal multiplication of a certain cell, the
  histiocyte.
• Histiocytic diseases are not cancer, although
  they are both treated with chemotherapy.

NON-LANGERHANS CELL HISTIOCYTOSIS DISORDERS

• Juvenile Xanthogranuloma (JXG)
• Erdheim-Chester Disease (ECD)
• Sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy
  or Rosai Dorfman Disease (RDD)

JUVENILE XANTHGRANULOMA(JXG)

• 2 types of JXG cutaneous and systemic.
• It is very difficult to estimate how many
  children develop JXG.
• The underlying cause of JXG is still unknown.

ERDHEIM-CHESTERDISEASE (ECD)

• Erdheim-Chester is a rare form of non-Langerhans
  cell histiocytosis.
• ECD does not have a standard treatment or
  protocol
• The underlying cause of ECD is still unknown.

ROSAI-DORFMANDISEASE (RDD)

• 2 main types of RDD are cutaneous and extranodal.
• Who can get Rosai Dorfman Disease?
• The underlying cause of RDD is still unknown.
