  • Our Goal
  • Proficiency in mathematical studies is key to a
successful career in many fields such as science
and business. The department believes that all
students can succeed in mathematical studies
through a combined effort by teacher, student and
parent. The Watchung Hills Mathematics Department
is committed to teach students in a wide variety
of math courses including algebra, geometry,
trigonometry and calculus. We offer elective
courses in probability, computer programming and
statistics. Recently the department has begun an
initiative with the Science Department called
STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math).
The teachers of the department use a wide variety
of tools including TI calculator technology and
guided practice to maximize student achievement.
All students are required to pass the New Jersey
High School Proficiency Assessment in March of
their Junior year. The Assessment is based on the
New Jersey Core Content Curriculum Standards
which are reflective in our course proficiencies.

How are 8th graders recommended?
  • Data Based Assessment of New Jersey Core Content
    Curriculum Standards
  • 8th grade teacher makes an initial recommendation
based on test and quiz amalgamation
  • In June, 8th graders are administered a WHRHS
constructed mathematics assessment to validate or
    invalidate the recommendation
  • Algebra 1J
  • Algebra 1K
  • Pre-Algebra
