Who am I?
  • My name is Mrs. Sullivan.
  • This is my eleventh year teaching second grade at
    Valley Christian.
  • My daughter is a college freshman (Sac State) and
    my son is a sophomore at Valley.

What do I believe?
  • God uses every moment and experience to help grow
    us into the people he would like us to become.
  • Enjoy the adventure God has for you!

How can parents get involved?
  • PTPF- parent teacher prayer fellowship
  • coffee and pastries in the band room on the
    first day of school from 815 a.m. - 915 a.m.
  • Stay in touchbuy a parent directory
  • If you have special talents, field trip
    opportunities, or skills to share with the
    classlet me know.
  • Im looking for a brave parent or two to serve as
    Room Parents. If youre interested, sign up
    and/or come see me!
  • Help in the classroom, in the office, or even
    from the comfort of your own home. Check out the
    sign up sheets.
  • Need a few volunteers to help collate workbooks
    over the weekend. Please sign the books out

How do we communicate?
  • Read the weekly newsletter in your childs Friday
    folder. It contains crucial classroom information
    for you and your child. See attached sample.

    for information such as after school activities,
    hot breakfast/lunch program, PTPF activities,
    etc. The Chimes is e-mailed monthly and found on

What is the schedule?
  • School hours815-300
  • Snack recess1025-1045
  • Lunch recess1255-140
  • Dismissal time300
  • Friday dismissal time 200

How do I drop off and pick up my child?
  • Follow the police officers directions - safety
  • Please drop off your child from the green loading
    zone of our parking lot- pull forward
  • You may drop your child off at 745 am or later.
  • Children dropped off before 745 am need to sign
    in to daycare.
  • When picking up your child, you need a visor
    sign. You have 2 visors tonight and 2 more sent
    home during the 1st week.
  • Be patient with the traffic during the first two
    weeks of schoolit always gets better!

Safety Note Do not give out the back gate code
to students.

Is there homework in second grade?
  • Yes! Math Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
  • Writing weekly assignmentsmore information to
    follow
  • Extra class work that needs completing or
    correcting will be sent home.
  • Spelling, math facts, and Bible memory practice
    (Bible verses are due on Friday).
  • 1-2 Book Reports per quarter
  • Read at home (minimum 75 minutes/week)
  • The reading minutes log is due every Monday for
    the previous weeks minutes.

What is the grading policy?
  • Academic
  • Reading, Language, Spelling, Bible, and Math are
    based upon percentages see Parent Handbook
  • Other
  • Science, Social Studies, Work Habits, Citizenship
    and pullouts (P.E., Music, Art, etc.) are based
    upon participation, effort and ability to follow
    directions. They are graded E, S, or N
    (Excellent, Satisfactory, or Needs improvement)

How do we celebrate birthdays?
  • At School
  • Give me a note with the day you want to celebrate
    a day or two ahead of time if you wish to bring
    treats.
  • Classroom celebrations should be 15-20 minutes
    long. Keep treats fun and simple ?. No goody
    bags, please.
  • At Home
  • Mail invitations unless the entire class is
    invited.
  • Summer
  • If your child has a summer birthday, feel free to
    pick any date to celebrate your childs special
    day.

How are absences/tardies handled?
  • Absences
  • Please call the office (559-4400) to notify them
    of the absence. During off hours, leave a
    message.
  • If you missed class work and want it before your
    child returns, please call the office by 1000 am
    (408-559-4400) to receive work at the end of the
    day.
  • Tardies
  • Parents, please walk your child to the office and
    get a tardy slip from the office before coming to
    class.

What is the discipline policy?
  • Our rules
  • We respect each other, property, and ourselves.
  • Follow directions.
  • Keep hands, feet, and objects to self.
  • Use encouraging words.
  • Follow safety procedures.
  • Dont disturb others who are working.
  • Please read, sign, and return the discipline form
    to me. It contains policy details and a sample
    weekly conduct report.
