Alligators

Unique Traits and Behavior Alligators swim very
well, mainly using their tails to propel
themselves through the water, and also using
their webbed feet. The alligator's conical
teeth are used for catching the prey, but do not
tear it apart. Alligators have about 80 teeth
when teeth are lost they regrow.

What I Learned

• I learned that the largest alligator ever
  recorded was 19 feet 2 inches.
• I also learned that alligators swallow their prey
  whole.

• Alligators are nocturnal and feed mainly at
  night.
• Although alligators are heavy they can sometimes
  move at speeds that exceed 30 miles per hour.
