2Topics
- Introduction / Background
- JP-5 Testing
- Storage Stability / Aging Studies
- Off-Spec PT-CO Color Investigation
- Solubility Studies
- Anti-Icing Performance Testing
- Recommendations
3Background
- DiEGME is stored at various worldwide locations
for extended periods of time under a wide range
of storage conditions - QS testing has revealed DiEGME degraded during
storage - Technical data on the effects of degraded FSII
are limited
4DIEGME Spec Properties Test Methods
5Past Off-Spec FSII Samples
6Storage Stability / Aging Studies
7FSII LPR Deterioration Test
8Specification DiEGME LPR Results
9Off-Spec Color Investigation
10Contamination Study on Bahrain Sample
- FTIR and GC/MS Analysis
- Plasticizers and/or Alkyd Resin Materials Found
- DiEGME is a strong solvent.
- Conclusion supported by other testing
- Readily soluble in DiEGME, but not in water
- Resin Materials also seen in 5-gal samples
obtained by other supplier.
11Impact of Alkyd Resin on Pt-Co Color
12Antioxidant Impact on Pt-Co color
13Impact of Iron on Pt-Co color
14Off-Spec Color Findings
- Polymeric material contamination ( i.e. Alkyd
Resin) was responsible for high level of Pt-Co
color of Bahrain DiEGME sample - Antioxidant degradation can also adversely impact
Pt-Co color of DiEGME - Dissolved Iron complexes will also degrade Pt-Co
color of DiEGME
15Solubility Injectability Studies
16Solubility Studies
- Equilibrium Solubility and Dynamic mixing
solubility - Wet FSII impacts on Dry Fuel
- Dry FSII water level less than spec limit (0.1
mass ) - Wet FSIIs 1, 1.5, 3, 5 vol water in FSII
- Dry Fuel Fuel with saturation level (65ppm) of
total water - Wet Fuels Fuels with 200 and 500ppm of total
water - Dry FSII impacts on Wet Fuel
- Wet FSII impacts on Wet Fuel
17Static Solubility - Wet FSII/Dry Fuel
0.2 vol Wet FSII / Dry Fuel
18 Static Solubility - Degraded FSII
FSII was added at 0.2vol
19Dynamic Solubility
Wet FSII injected at 0.2vol
20Anti-Icing Performance Testing
21FSII Performance Study with FSIS Rig
22FSII Performance among DiEGMEs
23Recommended Use Limits
Request for waiver for Pt-Co color above 20 will
require additional testing and analysis to
determine if contamination is present.
