Title: What the BUZZ OFF campaigners have been up to..
1 What the BUZZ OFF campaigners have been up to..
2Since launching the campaign in February the BUZZ
OFF campaigners have continued their work to get
people to stop shops an businesses using
Mosquitos. Mosquito devices make a high pitch
sound which can only be heard by the under 25s
and are used by shops and businesses to stop
young people hanging around in groups outside.
3A survey conducted in Corby, the home town of the
young people involved in the BUZZ OFF campaign,
conducted by their local MP Phil Hope found that
82 per cent of residents thought the devices
should be banned or regulated, and that the best
way to deal with anti-social behaviour is to have
more PCSOs and more for youngsters to do.
4In March we received some great news when
supermarket chain Co-op said it was going to stop
using the devices outside its shops
5- In July there was more fantastic news when Kent
County Council announced that they were going to
ban the use of Mosquitos on Council buildings.
The Council worked alongside Kent Youth County
Council to find out what their views on the
device before deciding to ban it. Find out
more by reading Sir Als blog.
6- In June Sir Al spoke to the Association of
Convenience Store Owners. Although a lot of the
people didnt agree with what Sir Al said it was
a great opportunity to tell them about how
strongly young people feel about being
discriminated against. - Also in June, the Deputy Childrens Commissioner
and Charmain from Corby spoke at a conference
organised by Compass about the campaign.
7Young people have been telling us what they think
about Mosquito devices on our website this is
what they have been saying.
Us teenagers arent all bad, by using mosquito
devices your treating us like pests. When most
of us are nice warm hearted people. With dreams
that could change the society we live in.

symbolise the mosquito feeling cut out of
society. Charmain
8I dont agree with the use of Mosquitos they
dont always work and are painful to hear,
Moonfly 14.
I made this shape because it is how I feel about
the devices, they are dreadful and make people
feel upset and angry. Young people shouldnt be
made to feel like this.
9- What comes next..
- We will be publishing a toolkit on our website to
help young people to start a campaign to stop the
use of Mosquitos where they live. - We are asking people who use Mosquitos to get
involved with 11 MILLION Takeover Day on the 7th
November and invite children and young people to
discuss issues surrounding anti-social behaviour. - If you have any questions or want to find out
more about the campaign email buzz.off_at_11MILLION.o
