CHILE
THE COUNTRY OF CONTRASTS
2
  • Limited by Pacific Ocean from the west side and
by Ands from the east, Chile is one of the most
    isolated countries in the world.
  • Parts of Chile
  • North (1)
  • Central (2)
  • Central South (3)
  • South (4)

3
  • Although its average width is only 177 km, the
length of 4300 km from north to south
    recompensates everything.

4
  • Such a shape of this country results in
differences in climate in particular parts of
Chile desert in north, Mediterranean in central
part, cool and damp in south. The diversity of
climate causes great variety in landscapes.

5
From glowing desert...
  • Lauca National Park is located near the northern
border of Chile. Established in 1970 is mainly
known for vulcanoes Parinacota and Pomerape.

6
  • In the base of vulcanoes there is the lake
Chungara. Its environs are full of mammals
(llamas, alpacas) and birds from which the most
    popular are pink flamings.

7
  • Situated in the northern part of Chile, the
Atacama desert is the driest place in the world.
There have been places with no rainfall for 400
    years.

8
  • Atacama desert is 15 millions years old and is
100 times more arid than Californias Death
Valley. Aridity influences also mountains, which
reach as high as 6 885 m, that are completely
    free of glaciers.

9
  • The Atacama Gigant is a 115 m high geoglyph.

10
  • In the middle of the desert there is an oasis
(2000 m elevation) where lies a village San Pedro
de Atacama. The Archeological Museum of this
village consists of large collection of relicts
    and artifacts from that region.

This place seems to become popular amongst
tourists eagering learn about pre-columbian
history.
11
  • Valley of the Moon (Valle de la luna) is located
near San Pedro de Atacama. It was created by
floods and wind and therefore has its
unparalleled form resembling one on the Moon.
Unforgettable views make this place a very
popular one in the opinion of tourists.

12
...through geysers,...
  • Not in a long distance from San Pedro there is
    another attraction El Tatio.

That is a field of geysers situated on the height
of 4200 m and is one of the highest situated in
the world.
13
  • The whole spectacle begins at 4 am and lasts till
    10 am.

14
  • The central part of Chile containing three
    largest conurbations Santiago, Valparaiso, and
Concepcion is representing Mediterranean type of
    climate.

15
  • This region is popular for agriculture and
production of fruits. Grapes from this area are
    ingredients of Chilean wines.

16
...vulcanoes and lakes...
  • Moving down to south the characteristic area of
    Los Lagos cannot be ommited.

This part of Chile is rich in forests what is a
consequence of whole year rains.
17
  • National Park of Conguillio, which is considered
to be northern boarder of Los Lagos, covers 600
    square meters.

18
  • Its main attractions are Llaima volcano, Sierra
Nevada and forests formed by Araucaria.

19
till subarctic coolness.
  • San Rafael Lagoon National Park is the largest
of the Aisen region in the Eastern Chilean
    Patagonia.

20
  • Its main attraction is San Rafael Glacier (the
tallest glacier of the Northern Ice Country).
Crumbling off and splashing into water chunks of
ice make a great impression on tourists.

21
  • Torres del Paine National Park lies between the
Magellanic subpolar forests and the Patagonian
    Steppes.

Among tourist it is a popular hiking destination,
but straying from prepared paths is not allowed.
22
  • Apart from characteristic three towers, the
national park is admired by many for its
    beautiful vegetation.

23
  • Huge differences in the climate of Chile make
this country the unique one in the world. Atacama
Desert in the north, fertile grounds in the
center and cold area of Patagonia in the south
influence on colorful and breathtaking scenery.
That is the reason why milions of tourists go to
Chile every year and describe their impressions
as unforgettable and incomparable. Chile as the
country of contrasts enables people to touch real
    beauty of nature.
