  length of 4300 km from north to south

  differences in climate in particular parts of
  Chile desert in north, Mediterranean in central
  part, cool and damp in south. The diversity of
  climate causes great variety in landscapes.

From glowing desert...

• Lauca National Park is located near the northern
  border of Chile. Established in 1970 is mainly
  known for vulcanoes Parinacota and Pomerape.

• In the base of vulcanoes there is the lake
  Chungara. Its environs are full of mammals
  (llamas, alpacas) and birds from which the most
  popular are pink flamings.

• Situated in the northern part of Chile, the
  Atacama desert is the driest place in the world.
  There have been places with no rainfall for 400
  years.

• Atacama desert is 15 millions years old and is
  100 times more arid than Californias Death
  Valley. Aridity influences also mountains, which
  reach as high as 6 885 m, that are completely
  free of glaciers.

• The Atacama Gigant is a 115 m high geoglyph.

• In the middle of the desert there is an oasis
  (2000 m elevation) where lies a village San Pedro
  de Atacama. The Archeological Museum of this
  village consists of large collection of relicts
  and artifacts from that region.

This place seems to become popular amongst
tourists eagering learn about pre-columbian
history.

• Valley of the Moon (Valle de la luna) is located
  near San Pedro de Atacama. It was created by
  floods and wind and therefore has its
  unparalleled form resembling one on the Moon.
  Unforgettable views make this place a very

• Not in a long distance from San Pedro there is
  another attraction El Tatio.

That is a field of geysers situated on the height
of 4200 m and is one of the highest situated in
the world.

  Concepcion is representing Mediterranean type of
