  • Twins raised by a she-wolf
  • Later would be adopted and fight each other over
    who should control the area they lived.

  • Romulus kills his brother Remus
  • Rome named after Romulus

  • Romulus is said to have continued building.
  • Historians believe the the Latin people of this
    area of seven hills united forming a community.

  • Around 600 BCE the Etruscans gained control of
    Rome.
  • Aristocratic Etruscan family named the Tarquins
    became kings.

    the Latins who had previously lived in this

    Romans so that in 509 BCE the Tarquins were
    driven out.

    responsibilities to pay taxes and serve in the
    military.

  • Only the patricians could hold these positions.
