34WORK EXPERIENCE
- Monday 12 July Friday 16 July 2010
35What is work experience?
- A chance to spend a week finding out
- what it is like to do a particular job
- every day
36Why?
- Helps you choose a job or career or what to do
when you leave Maidenhill - Do I really want to work out of doors/in an
office/dealing with people/with animals, very
much on my own/using a telephone most of the time
37Why?
- Helps you find out what you might be good at and
what you definitely do not like! - Helps you find out about opportunities in work
and in life generally new ideas!
38What sorts of jobs do you mean?
- Farms Factories
- Banks Shops
- Garages Offices
- Hotels Hairdressers
- Schools Catering
- Old peoples homes Entertainment
- Music Sport
- and more ............................
39So, can I do anything?
- Typical limitations
- Transport
- Accommodation
- Health and safety INSURANCE FORMS!!
40What is this insurance about?
- A company called TRIDENT checks out EVERY PLACE
to see if it meets health and safety rules - You will HAVE to send the trident form to the
employer you are going to do work experience with - If you do not have the form back BY EASTER YOU
CANNOT GO
41Do the employers report on how Ive done?
- YES!
- A questionnaire will be completed and sent to
school - You could use it when applying for a course or
job as part of your references
42Is there any follow up in school?
- Again, YES
- You will complete a log book of your
experiences - Discussions will take place to see how you got
on and to allow you to gain from what happened to
others
43So, when does it all start then?
- The sooner the better!
- Other schools will be looking for places too
first come, first served. - Trident MUST check they wont after Easter!
44- You will be getting a letter to take home soon
- Working closely with your tutors on this will be
ESSENTIAL - Start thinking about where you would like to go
and what you would like to try
