JULIUS CAESAR

• Roman General Julius Caesar built up the army and
  conquered Gaul, Britain, Lybia, Cyrenaica,
  Numidia, Syria, and Asia Minor.
• He then came to Rome and declared himself
  Dictator for Life.

Caesars Death

• Caesar was assassinated by those who thought he
  was becoming too powerful on March 15,44 BC
• He was stabbed by as many as 70 men.
• These men felt they were protecting the
  Republic.
• Two of those men were his friends Brutus and
  Cassius.

Shakespeares Julius Caesar

• Shakespeare wrote a play called Julius Caesar.
• In the play Caesar says Et Tu Brute before he
  dies.
• He is shocked Brutus is one of the assassins.

AFTER CAESARS DEATH

• Marc Antony gave the oration at his funeral.
• Rome was thrown into a period of 15 years of
  civil war.
• Brutus and Cassius both die in war.
• Marc Antony, Lepidus and Octavian form a
  Triumvirate and split Rome into three parts.
