STFC Girls Centre of Excellence programme kicks
off on Tuesday 4th September, offering
Shropshires brightest young talented Girls the
chance to compete against others Centres of
Excellences in the Midlands of similar
ability. What is the purpose of Centre of
Excellence? The purpose of the Centres is to
identify players of outstanding ability and place
them in a technical and educational programme
designed to produce excellence in conjunction
with personal development. By offering weekly
coaching and fixtures along with FA qualified
staff the girls will undertake a structured
coaching programme which is suited to their age,
size and ability. How are players selected to
attend the Centre of Excellence? Players are
selected though open trials at the beginning of
the season and then during the season Via
recommendations through Junior League clubs,
schools and scouting. Trialist If a trialist
is deemed not of the required standard then the
player and the parent(s) are informed via a
private interview with the Coach and Centre of
Excellence Director. Signed Player If a signed
player has not developed to the standard required
by the Centre of Excellence she would follow the
following procedure. Records of
attendance/standard achieved in training and
Centre of Excellence Fixtures will be reported to
the parents. Areas of concern would be expressed
at parent meeting .Then the same procedure as
above re Trialist would apply. Evaluation Each
player will have two monitoring/progress forms
which will be completed by the Head and Assistant
Coach, one at the start of the season, one at the
end. Parents will be invited to attend. There
will also be a couple of parents evening
workshops delivered by the Director and
Co-ordinator and any other guest speakers.

What exit routes are available for the girls
attending a Centre of Excellence? Centre of
Excellences are an integral part of the FAs
player development structure and talent
identification system. Local Centres which are
attached to professional clubs for administration
and recognition, feed into the three England
development squads at Under 15,Under 17 and Under
19. These National development squads take the
most talented players from Centres of Excellences
around the country for training camps, where they
offer the very best support to a young player.
The camps run for 3-4 days and the girls take
part in practical coaching sessions as well as
receive talks on nutrition, fitness and injury
prevention treatment. England monitor all
players progress through their local Centre of
Excellence. It is hoped that some of these girls
will then go on to represent their country at
U19, U23s and eventually senior level. Talented
players can only be selected to play for their
country through attending a Centre of
Excellence. The Midlands Centre of Excellence
