Communities
In order to support families to form confident
communities, PEEP supports them through an
empowerment process, which enables them to grow
in knowledge, self confidence and
motivation. Although PEEP provides support for
families throughout the empowerment process,
other activities and programmes may provide
specific support during the process as well. In
such cases, PEEP can be combined with these
activities to provide the total, overall support
needed by families.
EMPOWERMENT
PARTICIPATION
ISOLATION
Isolated Families Dont have enough knowledge
of their childrens development to support them
in practical, daily activities. Dont have
enough knowledge, motivation or confidence to
access support.
Participating Families Are knowledgeable about
their childrens development, know how to support
it and are involved in practical daily activities
with their children, which enhance the childrens
self-esteem, literacy, numeracy and learning
dispositions. Have enough knowledge, motivation
and confidence to access support as and when they
need it.

Delivery Methods. There is a wide spectrum of
delivery methods in the Learning Together
Programme. These individual methods are designed
to provide support for families who are at
particular points along the Empowerment
Continuum. Each method is flexible and supports
families over a period of time so that they can
grow in knowledge, skill and confidence and so
participate more readily in support offered
within the community. Ideally PEEP provides
support over the whole spectrum.

In order to support families to form confident
communities, well-trained practitioners are
needed. PEEP training supports practitioners to
become aware of the issues that need to be
addressed when working with families to support
the development of their children, increase their
knowledge of how to provide support and increase
their skills in delivering that support.
