CREATING a SERIES
2
When youre working with a series (a particular
set of data such as a series of dates or a list
of consecutive numbers) numbering or labeling all
the items in the series can be really
time-consuming. Excel will do this work for you!
In this example, well set up a two week work
schedule starting on Monday the 4th of September
through Sunday the 17th
  • Setup a worksheet that looks like the one at
    right.
  • In cell A3 type in the first day of the series
    Monday
  • In cell B3 type in the date for that first day 4

3
  • Left CLICK on cell A3
  • Left CLICK on Edit in the Toolbar.
  • Select Fill
  • Left Click on Series

4
  • In the Series Window that opens, under Type,
click the radio button next to Date
  • Under Date unit, click the radio button next to
    Day
  • Click OK
  • With A3 still selected, move the cursor to the
lower right corner of the cell until it becomes a
    single line cross.

5
  • Left CLICK and hold the mouse button and drag the
box down to the last cell in your series.
  • Release the mouse button and EXCEL will fill-in
    the days in your series.

Adjust the column width as needed.
6
  • Repeat the same steps to place the dates for each
of the days in your worksheet.

OOPS! Did your series wind up looking like the
one at the right????
  • Left CLICK on the Auto-Fill Options
  • Click the radio button next to Fill Series
  • EXCEL places the dates sequentially

7
The finished worksheet will look like the one
below. Just waiting for you to fill in the
employee names.
And NOW you know how to Create a Series.
