4Credentialing Overview
- What is faculty credentialing, and why is it
important? - Faculty credentialing is a process that ensures
faculty are qualified to teach in their subject
area. - It is important because we want quality faculty.
- It is a vital part of our accreditation process
for the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools (SACS).
5Credentialing Overview
- What usually qualifies a person to teach?
- In most cases, a persons educational background
determines what they can teach. In some
vocational areas, a persons professional
experience and certain licensures are also needed
to qualify.
6Credentialing Overview
- Who should be credentialed to teach?
- All persons who have direct instructional
activity in a class must be credentialed,
including primary and secondary instructors. - Non-employees who teach through an agency or
contract must also be credentialed please see
the web page at http//www.pbcc.edu/acsv/nonemploy
ee.asp
7PBCC Credentialing Manual
- In 2003-2004, the associate deans, deans and VPAA
developed credentialing criteria for every course
taught at PBCC. This manual must be used to
compare the faculty members qualifications to
the PBCC standard for that course.
8PBCC Credentialing Manual
The Credentialing Manual is available on-line
at http//www.pbcc.edu/acsv/credentialmanual.asp
and in effect for the 2004-2005 Academic Year,
and will be used as written.
9The Credentialing Process
- The process of credentialing and loading of
instructors to classes must occur in the
following sequence
Submit to Deans Council for approval
(credit/prep/PSAV) or Associate Dean/Dean for
CWE/Avocational.
If approved, send to Academic Services for
loading onto PantherNet
Prepare Faculty Roster
10Timelines and Sequence
- Why is the sequence important?
- Faculty should have all credentials reviewed and
approved PRIOR to being hired to teach. - In the new Instructor Resource Management (IRM)
system, instructors must be credentialed and
loaded to a class PRIOR to being reported to
Human Resources via a Personnel Action Form.
11Prepare Faculty Roster
- The Faculty Roster is a summary document that
details an instructors qualifications - The document includes
- Degrees earned
- Graduate courses that qualify a person to teach
- Licensure and certifications
- Relevant professional experience
- Proposed courses to be taught
- Faculty Roster is available on-line at
http//www.pbcc.edu/cia/alc/faculty_roster.doc
12Approval Credit, Prep and PSAV
- The Deans Council and VPAA must review and
approve any faculty member proposed to teach in
any credit, prep or PSAV course.
13Approval Credit, Prep and PSAV
- Step 1 Fill-out faculty roster
- Step 2 Forward roster via a voting email to the
Deans Council and VPAA for review. The council
members will vote (Dr. Sass and a majority of the
deans must vote approve.)
For detailed instructions on how to create a
roster and email vote, please see the web page at
http//www.pbcc.edu/acsv/vote.asp
14Approval (contd)
- Step 3 If approved, send email voting results
and faculty roster form to credential_at_pbcc.edu - Step 4 Faculty credentials will be loaded to
PantherNet by Academic Services staff.
15Approval CWE and Avocational
- Step 1 Associate Dean or Dean sends a completed
Faculty Roster to credential_at_pbcc.edu - Step 2 Faculty Credentials will be loaded to
PantherNet by Academic Services staff.
16Role of Academic Services
- Academic Services staff DOES NOT re-review the
approved Faculty Roster as to the instructors
qualifications to teach. - Academic Services staff will be the only college
staff who have security access to add or modify
credentials on the PantherNet system. - Credentials will be loaded immediately following
