Title: Does test creation cause you pain
1Does test creation cause you pain?
Does it take too much valuable time? Well
Technology can help!
2In years gone by
- The majority of assessments were given as paper
pencil assessments or known as traditional
assessments. - The teacher would copy the test out of a teacher
edition - or may have hand written the test.
- and more recently the teacher would use a word
processing program to write the question while
battling with the alignment tools to create a
test. - If the teacher wanted to use a rubric they would
have gone through the same process and copied out
of a TE or use a trusty ruler and pencil.
3Problems with Paper
- Besides contributing to killing trees.
- The teacher had mountains of papers on her or
his desks to grade and file. - The teacher had several hours of milling over
each scrap of dead tree (oops! paper) to grade
and record the assessments. - Temptation would have the poor woe begotten
teacher - either not testing the students,
- not assigning projects or papers (to keep from
grading), - or just stating that everyone passed, with a
apprehension.
4There has to be a better way!
- The teacher did not succumb to the temptation.
- The teacher is a dedicated soul who is in the
job, not for the money, but to pass along greater
knowledge and understanding to all of the
students entrusted in his/her care. - The teacher thought, there is a better more
efficient way!
- Low and behold the wonderful web-based assessment
templates and generators - (which by the way can be saved in digital
format).
5What type of test do I need?
Traditional
Which would include T/F, multiple choice, short
answer, matching, fill in the blank.
Easy Test Maker is a quick easy way to create
traditional tests. Free Math Test allows teachers
to create math test.
6What type of test do I need?
Digital Portfolio . Portfolio assessment
provides a body of student work--essentially, a
portfolio--that can be used to appraise student
performance over time (On Purpose Associates)
Electronic or digital portfolios can be created
when the student is in Kindergarten and work
samples can be added every year through the
childs academic career to show growth. Storing
portfolios digitally saves a lot of physical
space and material can be easily sorted and
retrieved which saves time at conferences.
Authentic Assessment Authentic assessment
provides students with real-world challenges that
call for them to relate appropriate skills and
knowledge (On Purpose Associates).
Rubrics Rubistar Teach-nology
Observation peers or teachers would record
observation on a rubric.
7The Best Part .
- Teachers will get a better understanding of what
their students are learning. - Teachers will have more organized desks.
- Save time to socialize.
