What is IDPA?

• IDPA is an acronym for International Defensive
  Pistol Association
• PURPOSE
• It is a Defensive shooting, as a sport is,
  simply the use of practical equipment including
  full charge ammunition to solve real world
  self-defense scenarios.

WHY DO WE NEED DEFENSIVE PISTOL SHOOTING SPORT?

• Defensive Pistol offers
• Forum for practical shooters
• Truly practical equipment, and
• Truly practical Techniques and Courses of
  fire
• Also a place to compete for common service
  pistols (eg. Beretta, Glock or Sig.)
• The use of concealed carry holster without
  handicapped

THE GOAL OF DEFENSIVE PISTOL SHOOTING

• To test the skill ability of the
  individual---- not their equipment or
  gamemanship.
• To promote safe and proficient use of guns
  and equipment suitable for self-defense use.
• To offer a competition forum for shooters using
  standard factory produced service pistols
• To provide shooters with practical and
  realistic course of fire that simulate a
  potential life- threatening encounter or that
  tests skills that would be required to survive
  a life threatening encounter

What Type of Matches does Defensive Pistol
hold ?

• Two categories of Defensive Pistol Courses
• Self- Defense Scenarios
• Standard Exercises

Self-Defense Scenarios

• Are simulations of actual or possible real
  world confrontations.
• Shots from 3 20 yards
• Often requires the shooter to change firing
  points and shoot from awkward positions.

Standard Exercise

• Simulate a potential threat situation but are
  designed to test specific shooting and gun
  handling skills.

Type of Equipment to Compete in
Defensive Pistol Matches

• Service type pistol or revolver of 9mm/.38
  Special or larger caliber
• Handgun suitable for self-defense use
• Practical concealed carry type holsters and
  ammunition carrier

Defensive Pistol Divisions

• Stock Service Pistol Division Handguns
  must be Double Action, Double Action Only, or
  Safe Action and be of 9mm (9x19) or larger
  caliber
• Enhanced Service Pistol Division Handguns must
  be Single Action or selective Single/Double
  Action and be of 9mm (9x19), (9x21), (9x23), .38
  Super, .357 Sig, .40 SW, .41 AE, 10mm Norma, 400
  Cor-Bon

• Custom Defensive Pistol Division
  Handguns must be .45 ACP caliber
• Stock Service Revolver Division Any
  revolver of 9mm/.38 Special caliber or larger
  with a barrel length of 4 inches or less (Note
  Effective 10-26-02 maximum barrel length reduced
  to 4 inches)
