  • Express Agreements oral or written contracts.
  • Ex. Who recently signed the most lucrative

  • Implied Agreements can be terminated at any
    time from either end.

Ending Employment Contracts
  • By performance job has been completed
  • At will can quit/be fired without reason
    because no specific length of time for employee
    relationship
  • Wrongful discharge
  • Cant fire because of race, religion, gender,
    pregnancy, veteran status, or national origin, as
    well as union activities
  • Cant fire in retaliation for
  • Refusal to commit perjury
  • Workers comp
  • Filing a report of companys violations
  • Urging the company to comply with the law

  • Government employees are entitled to due process
  • Breach of contract obligations not fulfilled

Unemployment compensation
  • Money paid to workers who have lost their jobs
    through no fault of their own.
  • Discharged without cause discharge was not due
    to the employees conduct.
  • Ex. The company makes a decision to outsource
    your department
  • Discharged for cause generally not eligible for
    unemployment.

How unemployment compensation works

  • Good for a period of 6 months
  • Must show weekly that you are actively seeking
    employment
  • Do not have to accept job offers, just show that
    you are seeking employment
  • Not eligible if you quit, strike, or refuse to
    accept similar substitute work.
