Our Commitment to Safety

• Mission As part of the Illinois Department of
  Transportation (IDOT), the Division of Traffic
  Safetys mission is to formulate, coordinate and
  deliver information, services and programs that
  will mobilize public and private resources to
  establish effective public policy and integrated
  programs to improve highway safety in Illinois.
• This plan is a work in progress and is a resource
  which will be distributed to grantees and safety
  advocates throughout the state.
• Definitions of some of the entries are as
  follows
• 32hr Standardized Child Passenger Safety (CPS)
  Technician Course
• Standardized 32hr CPS Courses are held throughout
  the year to certify individuals as child
  passenger safety technicians and instructors. CPS
  technicians and instructors put their knowledge
  to work through a variety of activities,
  including child safety seat checks where parents
  and caregivers receive education and hands-on
  assistance with the proper use of child restraint
  systems and safety belts.
• Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPS) Update
  Courses
• These courses are designed to update nationally
  certified child passenger safety technicians on
  changes in the field and best practice. These
  courses support the attainment of Continuing
  Education Units (CEUs) that can be applied toward
  national recertification as a Child Passenger
  Safety Technician.

Illinois Traffic Records Coordinating Committee
(ITRCC) was mandated by NHTSA to improve
information systems and crash data reporting to
support in-depth relational analysis and reduce
the human and economic costs of motor vehicle
crashes.Commercial Vehicle Inspections with
ISP-First Strike Regional Enforcement Detail.
The entire commercial vehicle staff (motor
carrier officers, hazardous materials officer
and/or safety auditors) will participate in
roadside inspections on commercial motor vehicles
at various designated locations. These
enforcement details will be 72 hours in length
once they begin and all operations will be
schedule throughout the entire daily 24 hour
period. While the IDOT MCSAP program will be its
funding source for IDOT staff, the details will
be in cooperation with the Illinois State Police,
Illinois Commerce Commission, Illinois Secretary
of State, Illinois Department of Revenue as well
as various Federal agencies. Public Hearings
DTS may hold meetings across the state to receive
input from local agencies and the public at large
on traffic safety issues. This input is included
in the Highway Safety Plan which determines where
federal highway safety dollars will be spent in
Illinois.Click it or Ticket-CIOT at the
Ballpark is an outreach program developed to
educate the public on our safety programs as well
as give them access to DTS staff to answer
questions they might have. Very successful
partnership with grassroot organizations
statewide.

Work Zone Safety Calendar Contest is sponsored by
the IDOT/DTS along with the Illinois State Board
of Education, the American Traffic Safety
Services Foundation and the Illinois Chapter of
the American Traffic Safety Services Association.
The contest promotes work zone safety by
introducing children at an early age to safe
driving practices with the hope of instilling a
lifelong awareness of work zone hazards and
fostering safe driving behavior in the future.
Student are asked to submit drawings depicting
safe driving practices.Traffic Safety Resource
Prosecutor (TSRP) program provides training,
research, technical assistance and support to
Illinois prosecutors, law enforcement and other
traffic safety partners.
