5The Quaker Influence at Guilford College
- Founded in 1837 by the Religious Society of
Friends (Quakers), Guilford is the third oldest
coeducational institution in the United States.
The Quaker heritage is present everyday at
Guilford. While only eight percent of students
are Quaker, the core values such as community,
diversity, equality, excellence, integrity,
justice, and stewardship are emphasized
throughout the curricular and co-curricular
program.
