INTRODUCTION
  • Esperanzas life changes dramatically after her
    father dies and El Rancho de las Rosas burns
    down. She finds some hope for a new future in the
    United States when Abuealita tells her We are
    like the phoenix, , Rising again, with a new
    life ahead of us. (p. 52)
  • You will begin your research on Esperanzas
    country and culture. Then you will join her
    journey and experience the dramatic challenges
    faced by a new immigrant to the United States in
    1930 during The Great Depression.

GOALS
  • You will gather facts from the text of the novel
    and your online resources to create a picture of
    Esperanzas life in Mexico and her life in the
    United States.
  • You will organize your information in a Venn
    Diagram to compare and contrast Esperanzas life
    experiences in these two different countries and
    cultures.
  • Turn this into Mrs. Price
  • to be graded before you
  • begin working on your
  • project.

  • 4. Once you have thoroughly investigated
    Esperanzas situation, you will answer the
    following question
  • What choice would you have made?
  • Would you have chosen to stay in Mexico, or move
    to California? How would you have made that
    decision? Prioritize your facts and defend your
    answer with information you have gathered.

  • 5.Choose and create a product from the Multiple
    Intelligences / Blooms chart, or design your own
    product (must be approved by Mrs. Price), to
    illustrate your decision and demonstrate the
    knowledge you have used to resolve to stay in
    your homeland, in this case, Mexico, or emigrate
    to the United States.

  • Students, you are now ready to begin your
    webquest. Please be certain you read all

    helpful in the creation of your chosen final
    product. However, you may use any of Baines
    Librarys online resources to gather information.

    your sources
